Who are we ?
PAUL HUMPHREYS
Chairman & C.E.O.
Born in England, Paul trained as a graphic artist, and upon finishing his education, joined the family printing and publishing business as Sales & Marketing Director.
After the sale of the family business, Paul bought and restored a Victorian mansion in the highlands of Scotland, and opened and ran it as a
deluxe country house hotel in the 1980's, where he not only learned the art of hotel-keeping, but became an accomplished chef and wine lover!
After an approach by Murdoch Magazines, Paul returned to the world of publishing, and became European Director of Sales and Marketing, with responsibility for travel trade publications. Later, he joined the
executive board of Hobsons Publishing plc, as Managing Director of Johansens Hotel Guides.
He currently acts as consultant Director for Eastern
Europe and Thailand to "The
Premier Luxury Portfolio", a
series of hotel and resort guides for the luxury
travel agent market.
By the mid 1990's,
after two decades of international travel, Paul had
acquired a fascination with the travel industry, especially with tour operating and marketing.
A specialist in incoming tourism in emerging markets,
he developed tourism into many former Eastern European
countries, and into the "new" South Africa following
their respective changes of government.
After working as Sales Director to an incoming tour operator in East and Southern Africa, Paul saw the need for a more international destination management company in Southern Africa, and established
dmAFRICA
(formerly Liberty Safaris
& Tours) in Johannesburg, of which he is currently
Chairman & C.E.O.
Paul is a frequent
traveller, having visited almost 100 countries, flying
over 100,000 miles a year. He divides his time between homes in
Spain and Thailand, and his office in South Africa. |
