An evening with at Studio Naenna with Patricia Cheesman
"You can probably already distinguish most of the hilltribes in Thailand
and Laos by their clothing. But what of the Lao-Tai sub-groups? Come and
learn that their clothing styles are regional and not distinguished by
ethnicity, and start to recognize those regional styles so the next time
you pass a woman in a tube-skirt or try on a garment made from traditional
cloth, you will know what you are looking at. Join me for some fun and
relax on the verandah of my studio while you enjoy the show. I can only

Directions: Studio Naenna is at the foot of Doi Suthep on Soi Chang Khian
which leads to the scout camp, at 138/8 Soi Chang Khian - Huai Kaeo Road -
T. Chang Phuak - A. Muang Chiang Mai.
To Studio Naenna from Huai Kaeo Road
If you are driving up Huai Kaeo Road in the direction of the university
(East to West) you're on the wrong side of the road and you'll have to make
a U turn to come back down the road (West to East).
Just before the traffic lights at the Canal Road intersection, turn left at
the Seven Eleven Shop into Soi Chang Khian. It's 2 km from the Seven Eleven
to Studio Naenna and there are "Studio Naenna" signs all along the way. If
you should lose your way, Patricia's mobile number is 081 6035326.
Go along Soi Chang Khian and when you come to Wat Chang Khian in front of
you follow the road around to the left of it.
Continue along the road until you come to a Y junction marked with a small
roundabout. Take the left fork at this junction.
The Studio Naenna soi is a bit further along here on the right; it's a
small soi so reduce speed and lookout for the "Studio Naenna" sign on the
right. Immediately before the Studio Naenna soi, on the right, you'll see a
big house with an imposing gate. The Studio Naenna soi is narrow and soon
becomes a single lane dirt track. The soi goes around a bend to the right
and as it straightens out Studio Naenna is on the right. There will be
someone there to show you where to park.
Alternatively, if you want to avoid doing a U turn on Huai Kaeo Road:
Take the Canal Road north of the Phucome intersection and turn left just
before Fine Thanks restaurant. Follow the signs to Studio Naenna from the
Canal Road.
or
Take the Canal Road north of the Phucome intersection and turn left over
the fifth bridge at the Thai House which is on the corner on the left. (The
bridge after Ing Doi estate) Follow the signs to Studio Naenna from the
Canal Road.
In the event that you get hopelessly lost, stay with your vehicle, send up
alternate turquoise and indigo distress flares every 17 seconds and the
Studio Naenna Search and Rescue team will come and find you and bring you
in. Only joking, all routes to Studio Naenna are very well signposted.
Parking will be provided but it is a small cul-de-sac so car sharing would
be great if you can arrange it.
